She has received a British Academy Television Award, a Volpi Cup Award, and nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, among other honours. Kirby studied English Literature at the University of Exeter after being born in Wimbledon to prominent urologist Roger Kirby and magazine editor Jane. Following graduation, she made her professional acting debut on stage in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons (2010), followed by praised performances in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2010),
As You Like It (2010), and Women Beware Women (2010). Since then, Kirby has appeared in two action franchise films, Mission:
Impossible – Fallout (2018) with Tom Cruise and Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Kirby starred as a bereaved woman in Kornél Mundruzcó’s English premiere Pieces of a Woman, a film about the breakdown of a marriage, in 2020. Kirby got widespread critical acclaim for his performance in the picture, which received mostly excellent reviews. “This is ultimately Kirby’s movie, as the stage marvel,” Variety’s Peter Debruge noted.
