Quentin Tarantino was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 27, 1963Connie McHugh, who is part Cherokee and part Irish, and actor Tony Tarantino, who left the family before Quentin was born, are his parents. Tarantino had an early interest for cinema after moving to California at the age of four. His grandma took him to see a John Wayne film, which is one of his first memories. Tarantino enjoyed telling stories as well, but he did them in unorthodox ways. “On Mother’s Day, he wrote me sad stories. Connie previously told Entertainment Weekly, “He’d always kill me and tell me how horrible he felt about it.”
“It was enough to put a mother to tears.” Tarantino despised school, preferring instead to spend his time watching movies or reading comic books. History was the only subject that he was interested in. He told Entertainment Weekly, “History was interesting, and I did well there since it was kind of like the movies.” Tarantino worked as an usher at an adult movie theatre after dropping out of high school. In addition, he took acting classes. Tarantino finally obtained a job at Manhattan Beach, California’s Video Archives. There, he collaborated with Roger Avary, a fellow cinema buff. They even collaborated on certain script ideas. Tarantino hated school and preferred to spend his time watching movies or reading comic books instead.
He was only interested in one subject: history. After dropping out of high school, Tarantino worked as an usher at an adult movie theatre. In addition, he studied acting. Tarantino landed a position at the Video Archives in Manhattan Beach, California. He worked alongside Roger Avary, a fellow cinephile, there. They even worked together on some writing ideas. Tarantino was able to acquire money for his directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs (1992), which he also wrote the screenplay for, thanks to producer Lawrence Bender.
“I haven’t seen characters like these in years,” actor Harvey Keitel said after reading the script. He agreed to participate in the production as both an actor and a producer. Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, and Tarantino himself were among the other cast members. Tarantino’s ultraviolent crime caper gone bad, Reservoir Dogs, wowed spectators at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992. He got the idea for the film from vintage heist movies like Rififi and City on Fire.
Tarantino produced an unpredictable thrill trip loaded with violence and pop culture references in Pulp Fiction (1994). John Travolta played Vincent Vega, a kill man assigned to look after his boss’s fiancée (Uma Thurman) in one of the film’s stories—a role that helped resurrect his then-dying career. Another section focused on Vega’s collaboration with fellow hit guy Jules Winnfield (played by Samuel L. Jackson).
Another plot thread had Bruce Willis as a boxer. Tarantino was able to masterfully tie all of these stories together to create a fascinating film. Tarantino admitted he knew about producer Harvey Weinstein’s behaviour toward women and expressed regret that he didn’t do more to stop it after a series of sexual assault allegations ended his career and sparked the #MeToo movement in late 2017. He was also forced to account for his own alleged misogynistic behaviour as a director, including the rumour that he forced Thurman to drive a dangerous stunt car while filming Kill Bill, which resulted in the actress’s life being changed forever.
Tarantino started dating Daniella Pick, the daughter of Israeli singer-songwriter Tzvika Pick, in 2016. They married in November 2018 in Los Angeles after becoming engaged in 2017. The couple revealed in August 2019 that they were expecting their first child together. The filmmaker had previously been married to actress Mira Sorvino for several years.
