Logan Lerman is an exceptionally brilliant actor who takes on hard roles and brings vibrant characters to life on screen. He is one of today’s premier talents in both independent and mainstream film. Logan was born into a Jewish family in Beverly Hills. Lisa (Goldman), his manager, and Larry Lerman, an orthotist and businessman, are his parents. His great-grandfather, Jacob Lerman, founded the orthotics and prosthetics company Lerman & Son, which he runs with his family. Logan told his mother when he was two and a half years old that he wanted to be an actor.
Logan had an agent and was booked for two commercials when he was four years old. He made his big screen debut in Roland Emmerich’s military film The Patriot (2000) as William, Mel Gibson’s youngest son, and then in Nancy Meyers’ romantic comedy What Women Want as the younger version of Gibson’s character Nick Marshall (2000). He played in the John Grisham adaption A Painted House (2003), a made-for-television film that won him the first of his three Young Artist Awards, after a brief role in ‘Penny Marshall’s’ Riding in Cars with Boys (2001).
In The Butterfly Effect, Logan played a younger version of Ashton Kutcher’s character, Evan (2004). He starred in the WB Network’s sitcom Jack & Bobby (2004), portraying Bobby (Robert) McCallister, a teenager who will grow up to be President of the United States, after guest-starring in 10-8: Officers on Duty (2003). Logan returned to film when the show was cancelled in 2005, appearing in the family adventure Hoot (2006). The next year, he co-starred with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale in James Mangold’s critically praised Western adaptation 3:10 to Yuma, in which he played the son of Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey) (2007).
In the comedy Meet Bill (2007), he played a foul-mouthed private school kid, and in the period drama My One and Only, he played actor George Hamilton (2009). Both films were self-produced and only released in limited quantities. Logan also starred alongside Gerard Butler in the R-rated action thriller Gamer (2009), in which he played a foul-mouthed adolescent who controls Butler’s character in a real-life video game.
Logan played Percy Jackson in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), a fantasy adventure based on the best-selling young adult book series of the same name. His debut part in 2014 was as one of the title character’s sons, Ham, in Darren Aronofsky’s blockbuster Biblical epic film Noah (2014).
The picture grossed over $100 million in North America, starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Douglas Booth, and Emma Watson. Logan then acted in the World War II-set action movie Fury (2014) alongside Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Bernthal, and Michael Pea; in the picture, he played one of numerous American soldiers engaged in tank combat against German forces during the Nazi regime’s final weeks.
Lerman then starred in the 1950s drama Indignation, written and directed by James Schamus (2016). Logan’s portrayal of Marcus Messner, an aspiring Jewish atheist from Newark who moves to Ohio to study at a conservative Midwestern Lutheran institution, earned wonderful reviews.
The film premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and is based on Philip Roth’s bestselling novel of the same name. Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero (2018), about the famed World Fighting I war dog, featured Logan as real-life soldier Robert Conroy. He began the decade with acting in the stunning television drama Hunters (2020), alongside Al Pacino and Josh Radnor, as Jonah Heidelbaum, a Brooklyn teenager who joins a group hunting out escaping Nazis. Sean Fogle in the Irish drama End of Sentence (2019), featuring John Hawkes as his character’s father, and Fred Nemser in the thriller Shirley are two of his upcoming roles (2020).
